II Its robustness and ease of maintenance were tomake it into the German Armys work-horse in both victory and defeat, and it was to make its presence felt on all fronts, used by all the branches of the German armes services. Built by the General Motors Opel factory in Brandenburg from 1938 and also by Daimler-Benz from 1943, the four-wheel drive Blitz type 6700A was found to be so reliable that more than 100 different bodies were officially recorded as being mounted on the chassis, such as ambulances, mobile repair workshops, fuel tankers, AA platform. Although usually in wheeled form, some Pak 40 guns were mounted on several types of vehicle.
